Humber Polytechnic’s Faculty of Health & Life Sciences is working to develop online eLearning courses to teach simulation facilitation to faculty members. Simulation learning is an experiential teaching method that immerses learners in realistic, interactive scenarios. The institution is hoping to expand the presence of simulation learning by preparing staff to lead and facilitate scenarios, not only in the faculty of Health & Life Sciences but eventually throughout all faculties at Humber.
These learning modules first started with developing digital storyboards alongside the script provided by subject matter expert, Sarah Wilkinson. I worked to translate her instructions and content into visual representations through a system of illustrations, with idea development by both myself and Sarah and execution by myself. Those storyboard were then adapted into educational videos that would later be integrated into the online learning modules.
The learning modules themselves follow a different set of scripts provided by the SME. The content was translated into the learning module builder (Rise 360), incorporating text, illustration, video and interactions.
Illustrations
Illustration examples – used throughout all videos as well as within the learning modules
Example Storyboard
The process of creating the video started by outlining each scene in a storyboard, created using Illustrator. Custom illustrations were also created for each scene to provide continuity.
The video was assembled using Camtasia and the audio was recorded and then edited using Audiate.
